Live Green

icon_live-greenLiving Green can be done by everyone. Below is a list of practical tips for living an environmentally friendly life.

General Tips:

  • Buy a hybrid or alternative-fuel vehicle on your next purchase.
  • Walk, bike, or use public transportation to work/school.
  • Plant a tree or garden.

Conserve Water

  • Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth, shaving and lathering in the shower.

Save Energy

  • Unplug appliances and chargers when you are not using them. Turn off lights, TV, and power down computers when leaving a room or not using them.
  • Change the thermostat on your home to 68 degrees in the winter and 78 degrees in the summer.
  • Use cold water for laundry and clean the lint filter in your dryer after every load so that you use less energy.
  • Turn off the drying feature on your dish washer.
  • Use compact fluorescent light bulbs to save money and energy.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

  • Avoid using plastic bags. Take your own reusable bag to the market or the mall.

Habitat/Wildlife

  • Learn about alternatives to household cleaning and laundry products that do not use toxic chemicals
  • Join the Moorhead Community Habitat Program. This organization provides habitat for wildlife throughout the community. For more information, please visit www.nwf.org/community or contact Mat Paulson at 701-367-4709
